Art of the year: 2024

Like I do every year, I made a playlist of the songs I loved that were released this year.
I also made playlists each month with songs I liked — you can see these here.

These are my favorite albums of 2024, in no order:

Spell Blanket by Broadcast
Frog In Boiling Water by DIIV
Um by Martha Skye Murphy
Grieftopia by Ministry of Interior Spaces
The New Sound by Geordie Greep

BRAT by Charli XCX

Diamond Jubilee by Cindy Lee

Some books I read and enjoyed in 2024:

Monsieur Pain by Roberto Bolaño

Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin
The Trouble with Being Born by Emil Cioran

The White Album by Joan Didion

The Vegetarian by Han Kang

To Write as If Already Dead by Kate Zambreno

I don't remember any movies I loved especially, but that's because my memory is poor.

The perfumes I enjoyed most in 2024 were virēre by Aesop, act 5 by Pantomime, and the 'Les Essences de Diptyque' set: corail oscuro, lunamaris, bois corsé, lilyphéa, and rose roche.

The most striking piece of art I witnessed in 2024 was this painting of the De Witt brothers' corpses, having been killed and partially cannibalized:

The Corpses of the De Witt Brothers, an oil on canvas painting by the Dutch Golden Age painter Jan de Baen. The painting depicts two mutilated bodies hung upside down from a tall wooden pole. Behind them are dark trees; it's nighttime.

It was painted by the Dutch artist Jan de Baen between 1672 and 1675.
